Realeyes Guide Volunteers

At Berkshire Vision we provide vital practical and friendly support, sport and activities to visually impaired
children, adults and their families in Berkshire. Helping to develop confidence and live independent lives
safely.

What will I be doing?

Some of our members need support and encouragement to get out and about. As a Realeyes Guide you
would help a visually impaired person to learn a specific route. For example, navigate a route to the train
station or to get a bus into town, or perhaps learn and practice the walk to the local coffee shop, the gym or
to work. Friendly chat along the way is also appreciated.

Who would be supporting me?

The Head of Volunteering and the Volunteer Co-Ordinator will be supporting you.
You will receive online induction training, followed by face-to-face training plus a volunteer handbook. We
reimburse reasonable expenses.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers who are patient and proactive. A friendly disposition helps.
Please note that applicants for this position need to be aged 18 or over. Our application procedure consists
of an application form and 2 references. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. No prior
knowledge of sight loss is required as training as a Sighted Guide will be provided.

Time Commitment
Varies but approximately 2 hours per fortnight.
